Hooray, Simpler Pastimes is hosting her January Classics Children’s event once again. I participated last year and had a successful run of it with four books, including the read-along book. So what does she have in-store for this year’s read-along?

Event basics:

  1. During the month of January, read as many Children’s Classics as you wish and post about them on your blog and/or leave a comment on Simpler Pastimes event page.

  2. The optional RAL title: The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Discussion planned for the weekend of January 23-25.

  3. For purposes of defining a classic, we are going with a book published prior to 1964 and appropriate for a young child to pre-teen age.

So what do I have in the works for this January…

  1. The Adventures of Pinocchio for the read-along.

  2. A Wrinkle in Time for my L’Engle project.

  3. Winnie-the-Pooh for Literary Birthday Month challenge from DWS group.

I was eyeing The Book of Three, as I will be reading The Mabinogion and The Chronicles of Prydain series was pointed out to me as being loosely based on this story. However, it was actually published in 1964, so no counting for this challenge.

0/3 books = 0%

I´m happy to see you participating again! And that you´re able to make it work with your other projects (always a plus). I think you should be able to count The Book of Three, actually. My mistake–I forgot to update the 50-year mark, which for 2015 would be 1965. (Also, I do allow for wiggle-room if you wish to rebel. 😉 ) I hope you have fun!

Wonder if I can fit in yet another book for January. My saving grace is most of what I have scheduled for this month is actually short for what I usually end up with. I did grab The Book of Three from the library today, just in case.

I think I need to read at least one children’s classic in January!
